Before you start#
Plan the month needs at least one product photo in the client. The Plan the month card in Make something stays greyed out until there is one (its tooltip says, for example, "Add a dish photo first"). It also helps to set the client's language in the Brand Kit: the text on the designs, captions and occasion names are written in it.
Set up the month#
- 1
Open the planner
In the studio, click Plan the month at the top of Make something. You can also ask the Director to plan the month.
- 2
Pick the month
Choose one of the next three months. The current month is offered only while at least 7 days are left in it. Occasions that fall in the month are listed under it, with their dates.
- 3
Check where the client sells
Client sells in decides which occasions appear and what they are called (Mothering Sunday in the UK, Mother's Day in the US). It starts on your agency's country.
- 4
Choose how many posts and on which days
Posts: 8, 12, 16 or 20. Posting days: any days of the week (Mon, Wed, Fri and Sat are selected to start).
- 5
Write the month's offers and events
In Offers, launches & events this month, type them in plain words, one per line: "Black Friday: 25% off everything", "New flavour launching on the 15th: Mango Zest at ₹149". Up to 1,500 characters.
- 6
Pick the products to feature
Tick up to 10 products (the first 10 are ticked for you).
- 7
Pick platforms and sizes
Platforms is where the posts will go. Sizes for every post is Feed 4:5, Post 1:1 and/or Story 9:16.
- 8
Draft
Click Draft {n} posts. It takes about 30 seconds and is free.
The plan never invents an offer
Offers, prices, launches and claims are used only if you wrote them in the notes (or the client's website says them). If the notes are empty, the month is made of product, festive and brand posts, with no discounts.
How the dates are chosen#
- Days that have already passed are skipped.
- Every occasion in the month gets its own post on its own day, and gets a festive design.
- The remaining posts are spread evenly across your posting days. If there are not enough of those days, other days fill the gap.
- Design types are mixed: no single type takes more than a third of the month.
- Each post gets a caption and 5–8 hashtags.
Review and edit the draft#
Each row shows the date (with the occasion in amber), a thumbnail, the design type and product, and the words that will go on the image. Click edit on any row to change:
- The words on the design (the fields depend on the design type, for example Offer, Supporting line, Headline)
- Caption (up to 600 characters)
- Hashtags (up to 300 characters)
Changes save when you click away. Skip this post leaves a post out of the month; Include this post brings it back. Skipped posts are not made, not charged and never shown to the client.
Make the posts#
- 1
Click Make
The button shows the total: Make {n} posts — {cost} credits · ~{minutes} min. Credits are taken once, for the whole month.
- 2
Close the window if you like
Posts are made three at a time in the background; a 12-post month takes about five minutes. The row status moves from queued to making… to done.
- 3
Find them on the canvas
Finished posts are laid out on the canvas as a calendar (one column per weekday, one row per week), below your existing designs. Each is also added to the client's calendar as a Draft, with its caption, hashtags and platforms.
| Sizes per post | Cost per post |
|---|---|
| One size | 1 credit |
| Two or three sizes | 2 credits (the first size is designed, the others are made from it) |
If a post fails
Its credits are refunded automatically and the row shows failed. Click Retry {n} failed to try again (charged again only for those posts).
Remake a post#
Open a finished post with edit, change its words, and click Remake this post with the words above. This puts it back in the queue; the credit is taken when you press Make again. After it is remade, its calendar post goes back to Draft and any client note is cleared, so the client can review the new version.
Send, export and report#
- Send to client: shares the whole month on one review link. See Client approval.
- CSV: downloads the plan as a spreadsheet (date, design, occasion, caption, hashtags, status and image links). The image links in this file work for about an hour, so use the calendar's exports for scheduling tools.
- Report: opens a summary of the month in a new tab: calendar, every post with its caption and the client's verdict. See Client reports.
Carousels are not part of month plans. Make them separately with Carousel in Make something.
